Senior Data Engineer

A leading global trading organisation is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join a highly technical, business‑facing data team. This role is ideal for someone who loves solving complex problems, is strong in SQL and Power BI, and enjoys working directly with risk managers, analysts and trading teams.

You’ll design and deliver data pipelines, data models, curated datasets, and enterprise‑grade Power BI solutions that support critical risk, trading, finance and operations functions.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and optimise SQL‑driven data pipelines, transformations and performance‑tuned queries.
• Design and maintain Power BI semantic models, datasets, dashboards and DAX measures.
• Translate business and risk requirements into scalable technical designs.
• Support risk, valuations and trade analytics across commodities (Gas, Power, LNG).
• Ensure high standards in data quality, reconciliation, testing and production stability.
• Contribute to engineering best practices and mentor colleagues where needed.

What You’ll Bring

• Strong SQL engineering experience (Sybase/SAP IQ highly beneficial).
• Enterprise Power BI expertise (semantic models, DAX, Power Query, RLS, refresh strategies).
• Background in data modelling, analytics and BI delivery.
• Experience in financial markets or commodity trading is a strong advantage.
• Ability to work directly with business users and challenge requirements constructively.
• Solid understanding of Agile, version control, CI/CD and testing practices.

Experience

• Degree‑level education (or equivalent).
• 5+ years in SQL/data engineering.
• 3+ years building enterprise Power BI solutions.
