VP / Director of Preconstruction — Distributed BESS
A high-growth distributed energy developer is hiring a VP / Director of Preconstruction to build and lead the preconstruction function across a rapidly expanding pipeline of distributed Battery Energy Storage (BESS) projects.
This is a genuine “builder” mandate: you won’t be inheriting a mature precon machin, you will create the structure, standards, and operating rhythm that turns early-stage opportunities into projects the delivery team can execute with confidence.

The impact you’ll have
You’ll sit at the intersection of business development and project delivery, owning the work that defines:
- What we’re building (scope and technical approach)
- How we’re building it (execution strategy, procurement plan, schedule)
- What it will cost (conceptual → firm estimates)
- How we win it (RFPs, commercial proposals, partner strategy)
- Where the risk is (and how we mitigate it early)
- Lead early-stage planning and preconstruction strategy for distributed energy / BESS projects
- Coordinate engineering inputs and align stakeholders to produce proposal-ready solutions
- Own the estimating process: conceptual, detailed, and firm/FIXED price estimates (where applicable)
- Drive commercial proposals, RFP/RFQ responses, and bid strategy from end to end
- Build realistic CPM schedules that reflect supply chain, construction constraints, and execution realities
- Lead value engineering and risk assessment to protect margin and deliverability
- Support vendor and subcontractor strategy: qualification, scope packaging, selection support, and negotiation inputs
- 10–15+ years in project delivery / construction management and/or preconstruction
- 5+ years leading preconstruction activities (team leadership a plus; ownership is key)
- Strong exposure to energy infrastructure; BESS / energy storage / distributed energy highly preferred
- Deep understanding of EPC delivery models and contract structure
