Senior ConsultantAbout the Role
We have partnered with a global leader in innovative Power Systems technologies - active across energy storage, grid services, and hybrid plant optimization for utility-scale projects in over 70 countries. They're looking for a Senior Power Systems Engineer in the UK. Our client is flexible on the location within the UK but you should be able to go to their office in London, Portsmouth or Southampton.
In this role you’ll lead the development of advanced dynamic models for battery energy storage systems (BESS) and inverter-based resources. Your work will shape how utility-scale hybrid and standalone storage plants respond to grid challenges - voltage and frequency stability, fault ride-through, and compliance.
You’ll own critical modeling workflows in DIgSILENT and collaborate across software, hardware testing, and product teams to translate these into functional, scalable solutions. This is a hands-on technical role where you’ll be part of an R&D team that defines next-generation power system optimisation tools for grid-connected assets.
Why This Role
- Tackle complex system dynamics at scale
- See your models directly influence product features and performance
- Work in a research-driven environment where engineering decisions matter
- Join a team at the forefront of grid innovation—energy storage, hybrid systems, renewable integration
What You’ll Be Doing
- Build, validate and optimise dynamic models of BESS and inverter-based resources (IBRs)
- Run time-domain simulations in tools like DIgSILENT, PSCAD, PSS/E
- Evaluate performance against grid codes and stability criteria
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate models into live products
- Create clear technical documentation and support internal knowledge sharing
- Contribute to technical roadmaps for software-driven grid optimisation
- Have the opportunity to visit clients in different European countries so be ready to travel approximately 20% of the time.
What You Bring
- Masters or PhD in power systems, electrical engineering, or similar
- Hands-on experience in dynamic modelling of inverter-based resources, minimum 5 years.
- Proficiency with simulation tools and DSL programming (especially DIgSILENT)
- Familiarity with utility-scale BESS and hybrid system controls
- Understanding of grid code requirements and system stability principles
