Job Title: Commissioning Engineer – Generators
Location: Olst, Netherlands
Employment Type: Contract 
Contract Duration: 2 Weeks- 17th-28th November 


Position Overview The Commissioning Engineer (Generators) is responsible for leading and executing the commissioning, testing, and performance validation of diesel and gas generator systems. The role ensures all systems meet design intent, safety requirements, and operational specifications. This position requires close collaboration with design engineers, project managers, clients, and on-site teams to deliver reliable, high-performance power generation systems—safely, efficiently, and on schedule.


Key Responsibilities Commissioning & Testing
  • Plan, coordinate, and carry out commissioning activities for generator sets, including diesel, gas, hybrid, and renewable-assisted systems.
  • Perform functional, load, and performance testing, including synchronization, load sharing, and protection verification.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical issues during commissioning, ensuring timely corrective actions and detailed reporting.
  • Verify installation quality against engineering drawings, manufacturer standards, and project specifications.
Technical Support & Documentation
  • Prepare and review commissioning plans, test procedures, and associated risk assessments.
  • Produce detailed commissioning reports and technical handover documentation.
  • Support troubleshooting and root-cause analysis during startup and early operational phases.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to project and service teams on generator operation and maintenance.
Compliance & Safety
  • Ensure all commissioning activities comply with applicable standards (ISO, IEC, NFPA, and local grid codes).
  • Foster a culture of safety and adherence to site-specific HSE requirements.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety audits, and hazard identification activities.
Project Interface
  • Work closely with engineering and construction teams to integrate design-for-commissioning principles.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, and OEM representatives to facilitate efficient project delivery.
  • Provide constructive feedback to enhance design, commissioning, and after-sales processes.
Qualifications & Experience Essential:
  • Degree or HND in Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronic Engineering (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Proven background in commissioning or maintaining power generation systems (preferably 500 kVA and above).
  • Strong understanding of generator controls, switchgear, protection systems, and automation platforms (e.g., Deep Sea, ComAp, Woodward, etc.).
  • Familiarity with power distribution systems, fuel systems, and cooling configurations.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and single-line diagrams.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and interpersonal skills; capable of working effectively in field environments.
